The Montgomery Country Club course is a wonderful golf course, an Ed Ault design, and not only challenging, but takes full advantage of the rolling terrain. Houses are visible, but never closer than 100 yards to the course, and not at all intrusive on the vistas. No two holes look alike, and there are ample buffers between adjacent fairways. Conditions were excellent, despite the serious heat and minimal rain over the last month or so. Tee boxes are flat, well sodded, and in good shape. Fairways are generally fairly wide and receptive, with enough room for not-quite-perfect shots to be in the short grass. A few bare spots, but very minimal. Greens are very large, most have some tilt, and some undulation, but nothing extreme: all putt fast and true. Bunkers are not excessive, but there are enough to keep one focused, and they are well maintained and very playable.
The Club has a nice practice facility. Did not go in the clubhouse. Staff we encountered were very friendly and welcoming. This course has two excellent public courses within a mile or so, Blue Mash and Laytonsville Muni, but it is head and shoulders above them. I highly recommend the course....cultivate a member and wangle an invitation to play it!
